The Government of Malaysia has approved the implementation of the Double Track Project to upgrade the railway infrastructure between Seremban-Gemas with the intention of increasing the speed, frequency, capacity and efficiency of the train services whilst enhancing operational safety of both passenger and freight trains.
Project Background
The proposed Electrified Double Track project from Seremban to Gemas (SGEDT) has commenced since January 2008 with the main objective of upgrading the existing railways transportation system to afford the public a Safe, Reliable and Efficient mode of transportation.
Once completed the operational speed for the trainis 140km/h. It involves the construction of six new stations and one halt in the state of Negeri Sembilan,Melaka and Johor.The total distanceof the new alignment is approximately 98km and shall be completed within 4 years.
The five stations and one halt that involves under Seremban-Gemas Electrified Double Track Project are: - Senawang Halt
- Sungai Gadut Station
- Rembau Station
- Tampin / Pulau Sebang Station
- Batang Melaka Station
- Gemas Station
Ministry of Transport Malaysia represents Malaysian Governmenrt's interest is monitoring the project with the assistance of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and Project Management Consultant (KLIACS).
The Main Contractor is Indian Railway Construction Limited (IRCON), a wholly owned Indian Government undertaking. This company is a well renowned organization in the railway construction and maintainance.
Project Objective
Seremban Gemas Electrified Double Tracking project has the following objectives:
- Upgrade the transportation infrastructure through modernization of rail facilities to meet future passenger and freight train services.
- Alleviate road traffic congestion problems through the introduction of a reliable and modern commuter services.
- Shorten travelling time for people commuting from Seremban to Sg. Gadut and eventually to Gemas and vice versa.
- Contribute to a cleaner environment by promoting the use of electricity as the source of power.
Implementation Phases
First phase:
The commissioning of the project is on 18th January 2008 and the completion date for the first phase from Seremban to Sg. Gadut will be on 25th December 2010.The duration for this phase is 35 months.Statons that involves during this first phase are: - Senawang Halt

Second phase:
The completion date for the second phase from Sg Gadut to Gemas will be on 17th August 2012. The duration for this phase is 55 months. Stations that involves during this second phase are: - Sg. Gadut Station
